My name is Pavel Rtue. I’m an artist from Sevastopol. I graduated from Crimean Art College as a graphic designer, but I have taken up monumental art instead. I paint on canvases and other materials. I get inspiration from everything. It could be films, music, the city, my mood, all eventualities. I’m fond of looking around, finding and memorising the writing on walls, failed attempts to paint over it, kids’ drawings. The environment inspires me. I draw on its shapes and colours. The images or what I had seen on the wall beforehand are incorporated in the artwork; it’s like a collage for modeling new forms. An artist who was my teacher opened the world of avant-garde to me in painting and sculpture. I began to move away from standard ideas of the graffiti and started experimenting with shapes and materials from that time on. I’m always craving for figurative solution and harmony. Every viewer makes his or her own interpretation of the works, that is a reflection of their inner world. In my works I try to combine conscious and unconscious impressions hidden deep inside me. The creative process is always a challenge for me. It takes tons of both physical and moral energy. I suppose that if it takes a great deal of time and effort, then you aren’t replicating but creating. I create my artworks and they create me. The process is ongoing. If I stop creating, everything will disappear, even I as an artist will disappear. I’ve gotten better knowing who I am through creativity. I know my desires, my talents and my abilities. I know what I can ultimately achieve. My target is finding new ways to express myself by taking eclectic materials, styles, techniques, vision, and impression. All of these passing through me have to amaze me in the first place. If not, I go on seeking other ways. My own language and my own way matter to me. It is the route to immortality through creativity that is of great importance to me. Everyone aspires to have eternal life and creativity is my way to do this.
